EX DRAGON FRONTIERS SERIES

The EX Dragon Frontiers Pokemon Cards, released in November 2006, EX Dragon Frontiers is the twenty-ninth set in the Pokemon Trading Card Game. It is the fifthteenth set by Pokemon USA, Inc., after the company took over the Trading Card Game from Wizards of the Coast in 2003. The set is based on an unknown set of islands far away, inhabited primarily by Dragon Pokemon. This set marks the final appearance of delta species Pokemon, after they debuted in EX Delta Species and returned in EX Holon Phantoms and EX Crystal Guardians. The set symbol for this set is a pair of mountains against a circular white background. There are even “Delta Star” Pokémon, Mew and Charizard, whose type depends on their alternate color (Shiny form), which is, in this case, Water and Dark, respectively.
This set introduces a new mechanic: Shockwave and Imprison markers. These markers are similar to special conditions, save that they can be applied to benched Pokémon and that they don’t go away when the Pokémon retreats. Only three cards in the set use these markers, however: two Pokémon place the markers, and one Pokémon can remove them.
The rest of the set has some exciting Poké-Powers to show off. Milotic (5/101) starts off with Sharing: once during your turn, you can use Sharing to look at your opponent’s hand and then copy a Supporter card’s effect that you find there. It’s free and has no drawbacks… except that you can only use 1 Sharing Poké-Power each turn. Meganium (4/101) and Nidoqueen (7/101) add valuable deck-search abilities, getting Basic Pokémon or Evolution cards from your deck at rapid speed. Meganium only works when it first comes into play, netting you up to 3 cards—great as a fast burst, right out of the gate. Nidoqueen offers its Poké-Power every turn, letting you fetch 1 card per turn as a nice, reliable development tool in your deck!
